Wintec LED install

Case Study: Wintec Atrium Large LED Video Wall

Client: Wintec

Location: Hamilton, New Zealand

Project: Large-Scale Architectural LED Integration

The Brief:

Wintec wanted to upgrade their stunning brick-lined Atrium into a dynamic, modern space. The goal was to install a colossal, high-definition digital canvas that could act as a focal point for the room, displaying vibrant digital art, event information, and promotional content. Because the space features a massive glass ceiling that floods the area with natural sunlight, a standard projector or basic screen simply wouldn't survive the glare. It required a high-brightness LED powerhouse.

Our Approach: Engineering for Scale

An LED wall of this magnitude isn't just an AV project; it requires serious structural adaptation. The venue previously housed an older, smaller LED display, meaning a foundational framework was already attached to the brick facade. However, to support the massive footprint of the new digital canvas, our team had to custom-fabricate and securely mount the extensions to the existing structure. Because of the sheer height of the installation, our technicians utilized scissor lifts to expand the frame and carefully construct the new wall row-by-row from the bottom up.

The Challenges on Site:

1. Battling Extreme Ambient Light:

The biggest enemy of any display is the sun. With a massive glass ceiling directly above the installation zone, the screen had to be powerful enough to punch through intense natural daylight. We specified high-brightness LED modules that guarantee the colors remain rich, deep, and heavily saturated, even at high noon.

2. Complex Sub-Floor Cable Routing:

Getting data and power to a screen this size without ruining the clean architectural aesthetic of the Atrium was a massive undertaking. The main control room is located upstairs, meaning our technicians had to carefully drop the cable feeds all the way down to the atrium's ground level. From there, we routed the lines through sub-floor conduit running them completely under the floor before bringing them up directly inside the custom black cabinetry beneath the screen. This resulted in a completely invisible, highly secure infrastructure loop that keeps the public space completely free of trip hazards and visible wires.

3. Precision Alignment at Scale:

Working at height on a scissor lift adds a layer of complexity to panel alignment. LED walls require millimeter perfect connections. If the custom back frame was off by a fraction of a degree, the seams would separate as the wall grew taller. Our team took meticulous care during the framing stage to ensure the final digital canvas was completely seamless from edge to edge.

The Result:

The finished product is nothing short of breathtaking. The massive LED video wall dominates the Wintec Atrium with ultra-crisp, 4K-ready imagery.

As seen in the final delivery, whether it is displaying intricate, high-definition photography or sweeping digital landscapes, the high-contrast panels deliver jaw-dropping visual clarity. By combining heavy-duty structural engineering with premium LED technology, the ACLX team delivered a world-class visual experience that perfectly balances the historic feel of the brick architecture with cutting-edge digital performance.
